A Durham Public Schools teacher was placed under $1 million bail Thursday after being charged with distributing videos of young girls having sex with men.

Miguel Angel Tirado III, 30, was arrested Wednesday on 10 counts of felony second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to his arrest warrant.

The warrant listed the date of the offenses as Sept. 28, 2024.

Tirado, a science teacher at Jordan High School, was hired last year, a school system spokesperson told The News & Observer.

CBS 17 reported the prosecution asked for a $500,000 bail on Thursday, which a judge doubled upon confirming Tirado was a high school teacher.

Both CBS17 and WRAL shared a statement from Principal Susan Taylor, who confirmed the off-campus arrest but referred other questions to police.

According to his arrest warrant, Tirado is accused of distributing videos via an app showing girls between the ages of 5 and 12 years old engaged in oral sex and other sexual activity with adult men and, in one case, with a male child.
