These big-chain grocery stores are limiting hand sanitizer amid coronavirus shortages

Grocery stores are limiting the number of hand sanitizer and disinfectant products people can purchase in the wake of shortages due to coronavirus.

Wegmans said that it’s limiting purchases to three per order on “hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, alcohol wipes/prep pads & hydrogen peroxide,” according to its site.

Tops Friendly Markets told 13WHAM in a statement that it had a similar policy.

“We are currently limiting hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes to three per customer to allow as much available inventory for our customers as possible,” the statement said, according to the outlet.

Kroger, one of the biggest grocery chain in the U.S., posted on its website that it was also limiting products for customers.

“Due to high demand and to support all customers, we will be limiting the number of Sanitization, Cold and Flu related products to 5 each per order,” the message read.

Kroger-owned chains, King Soopers and Fred Meyer, also displayed the same message on their websites.

Over 101,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed worldwide and more than 3,400 people have died so far, according to Johns Hopkins University.
