House featured in HBO show ‘Big Little Lies’ lists in California for $29M. Take a look
The coastal city of Carmel, California, is iconic for so many reasons, including that it serves as the backdrop for many Hollywood adventures. It’s been a setting in “A Summer Place,” the original “The Parent Trap,” and most recently, the HBO series “Big Little Lies” starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.
And now, a Carmel house that was actually featured in the drama series has hit the real estate market for $29.6 million.
This isn’t the first time the stunning 6-bedroom, 9-bathroom house has been put up for sale. According to Realtor.com, the estate was listed in 2018 for $16.9 million and again in 2019 for a jaw-dropping $52.3 million (that listing featured five properties being sold as a compound, including the famous house).
It also helps the property was also featured in the Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas film “Basic Instinct.”
“The current owner spent millions on renovations,” listing agent Jonathan Spencer told Realtor. “The home lives like new construction.”
There is no shortage of high-end features throughout the 12,100-square-foot home, features that include:
Gourmet kitchen
Two-story library
Glass breakfast room
Gym
Sauna
Second kitchen
Swimming pool
Protected hot tub
Coastal garden
The house was also saved from a perplexing inside in 2004 by interior designer Paul Vincent Wiseman when it was owned by record-setting aviator Steve Fossett and his wife Peggy, Architectural Digest said.
“The house was very confused,” Wiseman told Architectural Digest. “It was part suburban tract, part French château, with Art Déco touches added by a Hollywood art director when it was used in filming scenes for ‘Basic Instinct’.”
Carmel is about 75 miles southwest of San Jose.
