A Powerball player in California got lucky — but not too lucky — in the latest drawing for a $675 million jackpot, officials say.

A ticket purchased at De Anza Boulevard Gas in San Jose hit five out of six winning numbers, missing the powerball, in the draw Monday, July 10, the California Lottery said.

The near-miss wins $352,712, but fell short of the $675 million Powerball jackpot at stake, the lottery said. No one won the full jackpot.

Three other players in California won $30,000 each for getting four numbers plus the powerball, the lottery said.

The next Powerball draw will be Wednesday, July 12, with an estimated jackpot of $725 million.

Over the weekend, California players got five of six winning numbers in Powerball and Mega Millions draws, McClatchy News reported.

It’s not the first time California lottery players have been just shy of a massive jackpot win. In June, a lucky Powerball player walked away with a $1,036,009 prize before taxes — but missed out on a $262 million jackpot, McClatchy News reported.

Days later, a Mega Millions player in the state scored a winning ticket worth $1,442,494, according to McClatchy News. That player also missed the huge $218 million jackpot by just one number.

What to know about Powerball

To score a jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets cost $2 and can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times vary by state.

Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
