Lottery player thought his big Powerball win was a typo. ‘It still doesn’t feel real!’

A few days after a recent Powerball drawing, a 64-year-old man signed into his Michigan Lottery account and realized he had won a prize.

The online notification said he won $100,000, according to a July 12 news release from the Michigan Lottery.

“My first thought was that it was a typo and I’d really won $1,000, because I thought there was no way I’d won $100,000,” Jack Rider told lottery officials.

Rider, of Battle Creek, had matched the Powerball and four of the white balls during the May 13 drawing, according to the release. This qualified him for a $50,000 prize.

But because Rider added the Power Play option, his prize was doubled, officials said.

“Once I verified that I really had won $100,000, I handed my phone to my wife to show her what we’d won,” the man said when claiming his prize. “It still doesn’t feel real!”

He plans to use his newfound cash to share with family and improve his home, according to the release.

Battle Creek is about 120 miles west of Detroit.
