Lottery winner ‘shocked’ after using calculator 5 times to determine Missouri winnings
When a lottery player spotted “something weird” on his scratch-off ticket, he went to retrieve his glasses.
Then he needed his calculator.
The man won big with a 500X scratch-off ticket he purchased in Rock Hill, a suburb west of St. Louis. The $50 game rewards players with a multiplier of up to 500 times if they match the winning numbers.
“I was going through and scratching the numbers and saw something weird,” the player told lottery officials. “I grabbed my glasses and saw that it was a ‘500X’ symbol and read that it multiplied your prize 500 times.”
The multiplier turned his $100 winnings into a $50,000 prize. He told lottery officials “no one is more shocked” than him.
“I got my calculator out and calculated it five times,” he said. “My head’s still spinning.”
The $50,000 prize is one of 50 offered in the game, which has a top reward of $5 million.
