Husband tells wife her first time playing Powerball paid off. ‘I thought he was joking’

While a Michigan husband routinely plays the Powerball, his wife had never bought her own ticket.

That changed last month, when Latasha Robinson was at a convenience store and decided to buy a Powerball ticket, according to a Sept. 22 news release from the Michigan Lottery.

Her decision paid off big. Was it beginner’s luck?

During the drawing Aug. 14, the 43-year-old Redford woman matched four white balls and the Powerball with numbers 32-34-37-39-47 and a Powerball of 03, officials said.

This qualified her for a $50,000 prize. But because Robinson had added on the Power Play, her prize was multiplied to $100,000.

“The day after the drawing, my husband checked the ticket and started yelling, ‘We won! We won!’” she told lottery officials. “I thought he was joking and that there was no way we’d won big the first time I bought a Powerball ticket. It was a surreal feeling when I looked the ticket over and saw that we really did win!”

Robinson plans to use her winnings to buy a home, according to the release.

The winning ticket was sold at a BP gas station in Redford, part of the Detroit metropolitan area.
