Powerball player narrowly misses $534 million jackpot, but still wins big in Virginia
A Powerball player in Virginia missed a $534 million jackpot by one number, but still won big.
No one hit the jackpot in the March 11 Powerball drawing. The highest prize went to the person holding a ticket sold in Virginia worth $1 million.
The lucky winner matched the five white balls (1, 3, 7, 16 and 66) but missed the red Powerball of 5. The $1 million win was the highest prize of the night, with the next highest coming in at $250,000.
The ticket was bought at a 7-Eleven in Dunn Loring, which is in Fairfax County, a spokesperson for the Virginia Lottery told McClatchy News. The county borders the western edge of Washington, D.C.
The Virginia player beat 1-in-11,688,053 odds to match the five white balls. The chances of matching all five white balls and the red Powerball are 1 in 292,201,338.
The jackpot in the March 13 drawing is estimated to climb to $559 million with a cash value of more than $273 million.
