Just before a man set out for an overseas vacation, he tucked away his winning Maryland lottery ticket.

The Baltimore County man found “the perfect spot” to stash his Racetrax ticket with the intent of cashing it upon his return, Maryland Lottery officials said in a July 23 news release.

But then, he nearly forgot about the ticket, only remembering when his wife brought it up, lottery officials said.

“To be honest, we were gone for so long and had such an eventful trip, that I almost forgot about the ticket,” he told lottery officials.

There was one problem.

“For the life of me, I could not remember where I put it,” the man told lottery officials.

After the couple searched for nearly an hour, the wife called it quits.

“She assumed it was a $20 or $30 win, which is what I usually win,” the man said, per the release.

His ticket, though, came with a $32,400 prize, lottery officials said.

“When I told her it was worth more than $32,000, she was furious with me,” the man said in the release.

To his good fortune, the man finally remembered his “perfect spot” a short time later.

“I had put it with my work papers so I’d see it when I got home,” the man told lottery officials.

In the spring, the man bet horses 1, 3, 6 and 7 would cross the finish line “in the exact order predicted on his $20 Superfecta wager,” lottery officials said.

The man told lottery officials he plans to share his winnings with his family.
