Mom jumps out of bed when son shares his Arkansas lottery news. ‘Are you lying?’
A son startled his “sound asleep” mother when he called her while he was supposed to be on his way to work.
What he told her caused her to jump out of bed “in shock,” according to a July 22 news release from the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.
“Say what now?” she said to her son on the phone, according to the release. “Are you lying?”
Her son wasn’t lying. He had just won $500,000 from an Arkansas scratch-off ticket he picked up on his way to work, lottery officials said.
He also shared the exciting news with his girlfriend, then “made a detour” to the claim center to collect his prize on July 19.
For the Dumas man, only identified as “Michael R.” in the news release, this means he can pay off his home.
An avid lottery player, this is his largest prize, according to officials. He plays the lottery daily before work, he said, and has won $1,000 prizes in the past.
The winner plans to continue to test his luck.
Dumas is about an 85-mile drive southeast from Little Rock.
