A man ended up landing a “top-prize winner” after buying a $10 lottery scratch-off, Maryland officials said.

The retired federal employee went to buy his usual Powerball and scratch-off tickets “expecting the same results as always,” according to an Oct. 16 news release by the Maryland Lottery.

But this time, he won – and big, officials said.

The man learned of his $200,000 win after scratching his Ravens X10 ticket in a 7-Eleven in Charlotte Hall, officials said.

He was drawn to the ticket because he likes playing newer games, officials said.

After learning of his huge prize, he “kept his cool” but rushed home to share the good news with his wife, the release said.

The lucky winner doesn’t have any plans for the money because “as long as he can spend time with his wife and family, he’s okay,” officials said.

Charlotte Hall is about a 70-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
