A Michigan man bought a lottery ticket for his dad, and the two were left in disbelief when they saw how much it was worth.

The man bought the Lotto 47 ticket for his lottery club from a store in Eastpointe because it had special meaning, according to a Feb. 27 news release from the Michigan Lottery.

“I don’t buy tickets often, but when I do I always buy them at Liquor Land because I remember my father always bought tickets there when I was a kid,” the lottery club’s representative told lottery officials.

The man, who was “longing for nostalgia,” said he bought the ticket for his dad as a birthday gift, the release said.

“When my dad checked the ticket after the drawing, he had to look at it more than a few times to believe what he was seeing,” the man said.

The ticket matched all six numbers in the Dec. 14 drawing, leading to a $1.1 million jackpot win.

“What a memorable birthday gift for a son to give to his father,” Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said. “Topping this gift will be nearly impossible, but sharing such a wonderful memory – and a jackpot win – with your family is priceless!”

The club chose to receive a one-time lump sum of about $763,000. They said they plan to pay bills and invest the rest into a business.

Eastpointe is about an 11-mile drive northeast of Detroit.
