A waitress and other staff at a restaurant in Colorado showed “courage and teamwork” when the server was attacked by a customer, deputies said.

A 30-year-old man stopped at Rock Rest Lodge in Golden at about 1:45 p.m. May 21 and placed a beer order, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in a May 22 post on Facebook.

He then asked a waitress to look in the woman’s bathroom, saying his girlfriend might have left something there, deputies said, citing accounts from the scene.

The waitress entered the restroom to check, and the man followed her, taking out a gun and choking her, deputies said.

The waitress “fought back and wrestled the firearm away from the suspect,” then fled and told other staff members, who subdued the man until law enforcement arrived, deputies said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault strangulation, second-degree kidnapping, false imprisonment, menacing and prohibited use of weapons, deputies said.

Golden is about a 15-mile drive west from Denver.
