Woman needed time to process huge lottery win. ‘No, no, there’s no way’

An Iowa woman couldn’t believe how much she won on a scratch-off lottery ticket.

Leigh Solis, 45, bought a Feeling Lucky? scratch-off ticket at a store in Ames where she stopped to get a drink, according to a Sept. 22 news release from the Iowa Lottery.

Little did she know, she would win the $10 game’s sixth and final top prize.

“I saw $150,000, and it was like, ‘No, no, there’s no way,’” she told lottery officials. “We scanned it with the app and it came back $150,000. Then we had to scan it with another phone because I didn’t believe it. We were yelling and just in shock.”

Solis said at first she thought the prize was much smaller.

“I didn’t think it was $150,000 at all,” she said. “$150 — but then all the zeros.”

Solis said she and her husband plan to pay off vehicles and save the rest.

Ames is about a 40-mile drive north from Des Moines.
