Biden campaign invests $25 million in North Carolina and other battleground states
President Joe Biden made clear Sunday he isn’t counting out North Carolina in his bid for reelection.
On Sunday morning, he launched a 16-week, $25 million ad campaign in battleground states including North Carolina, along with Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The campaign said this buy is the largest and earliest ever made for a reelection campaign into constituency media, and the largest overall buy at this point in an election cycle.
“This historic buy ensures that the President’s message reaches all Americans where they receive their news, and sends a clear sign that we are investing in an aggressive, meaningful, and effective paid media strategy,” said Julia Chávez Rodriguez, Biden’s campaign manager.
Biden’s ad credits Americans for fighting back from the pandemic and a major economic crisis and highlights how America is coming back “stronger than ever.”
The campaign released a strategy in early May that included targeting North Carolina in its bid for Biden’s reelection. A Democratic presidential candidate hasn’t won North Carolina since 2008. Biden lost North Carolina to former President Donald Trump in 2020 by just 1.4%.
Biden touts jobs, support for military families during NC visits
Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have made several appearances in North Carolina since launching their campaign, including in June, when Biden visited Rocky Mount and Fort Liberty to discuss “good-paying jobs” and initiatives to help servicemembers.
Biden and Trump are considered the likely front runners in the 2024 election, though it’s very early into the cycle.
This latest ad buy comes just days before the Republican National Committee holds the party’s first debate. Trump is currently planning to not only skip the debate but counter-program against Fox News, who is hosting it Wednesday.
“As Republicans head to the debate stage ... to put on their extreme and out of touch positions, we are investing in reaching Americans across the country with President Biden and Vice President Harris’ message for the middle class and for Americans’ fundamental freedoms,” Chávez Rodriguez said. “While Republicans duke it out in Milwaukee over their divisive and unpopular agenda, President Biden is amplifying his winning message and leadership as a president for all Americans.”
Meanwhile, those in North Carolina and other battleground states will hear in Biden’s ad about his economic agenda: creating good paying jobs and bringing back American manufacturing.
The ads will run on broadcast and cable networks in the Raleigh and Charlotte areas, and include the 2024 campaign’s first investment in Hispanic and African American media. It will also run during the NFL Kickoff, the World Series, on digital platforms like YouTube Reserve, Hulu, Connected TV and on short-form videos on Instagram and YouTube Shorts.
This is the third ad buy for the reelection campaign. North Carolina was part of Biden’s first reelection ad buy in April 2023, just a day after he announced his bid for reelection.
