Name: Chad Slotta

Political party: Republican

Age as of Nov. 8, 2022: 47

Campaign website: Slotta4NC.com

Occupation: I spent the first 20 years of my career as a pastor. In 2017, I stepped up to serve as the CEO of our family’s small business after my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Education: I earned a bachelor’s degree in political science, a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Management, and a Doctorate in Christian Ministry with an emphasis on conflict resolution.

Have you run for elected office before? I have not run for office before.

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: We planted a church in Cary where I spent years counseling and caring for people from all walks of life. I’m also a father to three teenagers in Wake County Public Schools. I’m active in local education issues, and recently filed objections to sexually explicit materials the school offers to students.

What is your plan for limiting the effects of inflation?

Reckless spending and a war on fossil fuels drive inflation. As a pastor, I counseled people trying to balance their budgets. It’s hard work and takes discipline. In Congress, I’ll fight against the Democrats’ embrace of “modern monetary theory” and turn off the money printing press.

What is the federal government’s role in controlling or ending the COVID-19 pandemic?

The federal government should no longer play a role. Vaccines and therapeutics are widely available. Americans should live their lives free of government-imposed lockdowns.

What is the federal government’s role in combating the effects of climate change?

The federal government must stop its assault on domestic energy production and return to President Trump’s energy policies. Until recently, the Biden administration approved of a Russian natural gas pipeline while shutting down American pipelines. Meanwhile, folks can’t afford to fill their tanks.

What is your plan for reducing violent crime?

We must fund the police and stop Congress from nationalizing the lunacy we see in New York and California. I support second chances and I believe in forgiveness and redemption. Policies that unleash violence and crime are not redemption. They’re reckless and dangerous, and they must stop.

What should happen if Roe v. Wade is overturned?

My teenage daughter was born at 24 weeks. She weighed 1.5 pounds. I believe all life is sacred and worthy of legal protection because I’ve seen what God can do when we fight for every child, including the unborn. If we’re serious about protecting life, we must also make the adoption process easier.

Is there an area where you disagree with your party? Why?

I’ve seen some Republicans in other states siding with teachers’ unions and against school choice policies. I disagree with the Republicans in those states. I believe parents, not bureaucrats, should be the final say in how best to educate their own children.

What are your top issues? Pick up to three.

Education

Economy and jobs

Abortion
