Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought) Yes. 10th Judicial District (Wake County) District Court judge in 2004; and N.C. Court of Appeals, elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2014.
Please list highlights of your civic involvement: Teaching law students as well as judges and lawyers in continuing education programs. Work as chair of the Chief Justice’s Rules Advisory Commission and on the Family Court Advisory Commission, Courts Commission, and Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism to improve our courts.
What could you do, if elected, to help make the justice system more equitable or accessible?
To make our system more equitable, I will continue to rule fairly and impartially in all cases, as I have done for over 15 years on the Court. I have worked as Chief Judge to make the Court of Appeals more accessible by streaming all sessions on Youtube and providing a podcast of arguments.
Tell us about a specific event in your legal career of which you are most proud.
Being appointed by N.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Newby as Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. I am honored and humbled by the confidence placed in me to serve in this role.
