Please list highlights of your civic involvement: Prior to taking the bench, I was involved with a number of grassroots initiatives and nonprofits including: Clean Slate Clinics, Justice Autoworks, FADE, and All of Us or None.
What could you do, if elected, to help make the justice system more equitable or accessible?
In 2018 and today, I run on a platform of Equity, Accountability, and Opportunity. I make it a point to ensure that outcomes are equitable regardless of means. As to accessibility, I encourage all of us to support our nonprofits that provide legal services to low-income individuals.
Tell us about a specific event in your legal career of which you are most proud.
My time at Southern Coalition for Social Justice is the work of which I am most proud. Our legal team helped over 5,000 individuals across North Carolina expunge past criminal records and receive relief from the collateral consequences of justice involvement.
