School test scores dropped during the COVID-19 pandemic. What should North Carolina do to improve student performance?

To find solutions, we will have to bring everyone to the table to share their insights and resources. As state senator, I will work together with our parents, educators, and community leaders to address this issue in ways that find equitable solutions for all students, at every age.

What do you want to happen in North Carolina if Roe v. Wade is overturned?

As state senator, I will always vote to uphold a person’s right to choose and protect access to safe abortion and reproductive care so I want to see our state legislature come together to protect these rights at a state level.

What should North Carolina do to reduce violent crime?

We need to listen to and provide resources to community leaders and programs that are already doing work in this area and are familiar with the needs of their community. We should enact stronger gun legislation to keep deadly weapons out of the hands of people who intend to commit crimes.

Should medical marijuana be legalized in North Carolina?

I support the legalization of recreational and medical marijuana. It should be completely legalized and regulated in the same manner we treat alcohol in our state by taxing it and providing age limits for purchase.

What should the state’s minimum wage be? What policies would you support to help struggling North Carolinians?

As the cost of living continues to rise across the U.S it becomes more and more impossible for people to live with the current minimum wage standards in most states. I support the Raise the Wage Act which plans to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025.

Should North Carolina expand Medicaid, and how?

There is no situation where we should be hindering access to health care for anyone. As someone who grew up with a health condition and spent years navigating our health care system, I know how important the expansion of Medicaid would be to all North Carolinians.

Is there an area where you disagree with your party? Why?

No.

What are your top issues? Pick up to three.

Voting and elections, education, health care.
