20-year-old firefighter killed in crash on way home from training, NC officials say
A 20-year-old firefighter was killed in a car crash Friday in North Carolina, officials say.
Corbin Rogers of the Spring Lake Fire Department was going home from ladder training when he had a car accident in Moore County, the fire department said on Facebook.
His car went into the other lane and hit another car head on, the North Carolina Highway Patrol told WTVD.
He died from his injuries, the department said.
Rogers had been with the Spring Lake Fire Department for five months, according to the Facebook post.
“Our hearts go out to Corbin’s family and we ask that you keep them and his fellow Spring Lake firefighters in your thoughts and prayers,” the fire department wrote on Facebook.
The Town of Spring Lake also posted on Facebook, thanking Rogers for his service with the department.
Town officials “wish his family the swiftness of healing and grieving, and lift up our hands and hearts as we offer our prayers and any help that may be needed to make this tragedy more bearable,” the post said.
Spring Lake is in Cumberland County, about 70 miles from Raleigh.
