Lottery player buys favorite NC game on his phone and ends up winning jackpot

A North Carolina man’s purchase of his favorite lottery game on his phone ended up paying off big time.

John Vickers of China Grove bought a Carolina Cash 5 ticket, which is his favorite lottery game, for $1 on the lottery app on his phone, according to a release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.

He told lottery officials it felt “surreal” when he won the jackpot prize of $518,547 in the Feb. 3 drawing.

He claimed his prize Feb. 5 and took home $366,872 after taxes, according to the lottery.

“It’s very exciting,” Vickers told lottery officials. “Just very exciting to be able to take care of my family and not stretch anymore.”

He told lottery officials he buys his tickets using the app because it’s convenient.

Carolina Cash 5 has drawings every night, and the game can also be purchased at most places that sell lottery tickets, according to the release.

His win beat the odds of 1 in 962,598, according to the lottery.
