Nearly $300,000 in meth seized after investigation into major drug ring, NC cops say
Nearly $300,000 in meth was seized after an investigation into a major western North Carolina drug ring, cops say.
Officials started investigating the methamphetamine distribution in western North Carolina counties after the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office got information about the scheme three months ago, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the United States Department of Homeland Security helped with the investigation along with several local law enforcement agencies, the release says.
Investigators launched a “surveillance operation” into four people involved, which led them across western North Carolina and into Georgia, the sheriff’s office says.
The investigation turned up a large amount of money, two cars and about $291,300 worth of meth, according to the sheriff’s office.
One of the four people investigated, 44-year-old Jeremy Magnus, was a major meth distributor in western North Carolina, the sheriff’s office says.
He was arrested along with Angela Dale, 33, during a traffic stop in Granite Falls, the release says.
The other two, 42-year-old Troy Powell and 35-year-old Heather Swanson, were arrested while leaving a home in Caldwell County, the sheriff’s office says.
All four are charged with multiple counts of felony trafficking of methamphetamine and are being held in Caldwell County under a $500,000 secured bond, the release says.
Officials are still investigating, the release says.
