Nine people were hospitalized after a large deck collapsed at a log home in the North Carolina mountains, according to Ashe County Emergency Management.

Two were badly injured and had to be airlifted to a hospital, officials said.

It happened around 8 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at a home outside the city of West Jefferson. The area is about 120 miles from Charlotte.

Investigators have not provided details of what happened, but photos on Realtor.com show the cabin sports a large second-story porch, which overlooks a steep mountain slope.

The “open deck on the back of the house allows for the long range views,” Realtor.com reports. The home was built in 1998 on 4 acres of lands, the site says.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office and four fire departments, officials said.
