A “devastated” family surrendered their beloved dog — and now, he needs a new home.

“Brody had a family who loved and adored him so much,” a North Carolina animal shelter wrote Aug. 5 on Facebook. “They recently welcomed a new human baby, and quickly found out that Brody could not feasibly live with the tiny human. Their hearts absolutely shattered.”

Carolina Animal Rescue & Adoption (CARA) didn’t say when the family surrendered Brody. But it wasn’t the 6-year-old pup’s first time at the shelter. His family had taken him in after he experienced a rough patch, according to the social media post and an online adoption profile.

“Rescued at 1 year old through Carolina Animal Rescue & Adoption from an abusive start, Brody has made remarkable strides and deserves a dedicated and loving forever home,” according to the animal organization in Sanford, a roughly 40-mile drive southwest from Raleigh.

This time around, Brody will need to live with a family who has no other pets or small kids. The mixed-breed pup is described as a “snuggle bug” who is “never more than a few feet from his people.”

“He loves hide-and-seek with his toys; neighborhood walks; sunbathing in his fenced-in yard; and ‘helping’ his mom work from home,” the shelter wrote.

Now, after his owners made the heartbreaking decision to give him up, Brody again needs a home. As of Aug. 6, the animal rescue’s website still listed Brody among the dogs available for adoption.

“I don’t do well in a shelter situation so currently I am in a foster home willing to help until we can hopefully find my new forever family,” CARA said in an online post written from Brody’s perspective.

The animal organization didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Aug. 6. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at cara-nc.org.

“His current family is devastated to part with such a wonderful boy, but with a newborn now in the house, it’s clear Brody needs a home without young children,” the shelter wrote.
