Scared dog rescued from roadside is ‘slow to trust.’ He needs a patient new owner
A dog rescued from the roadside was “full of fear” — and now, he needs a patient new owner.
Buxton the dog is building confidence but is still “slow to trust,” according to a North Carolina animal shelter.
“From walking with volunteers to going to events, this big boy is opening up more and more each day,” the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina wrote June 19 on Facebook. “It might not come easy, but once you have his trust, you really see this little man’s big personality.”
Buxton came to the shelter after he was found scared “on the side of the road.” Good Samaritans reached out to the humane society, which took in the 2-year-old mixed-breed pup with a “rough” past, according to an online adoption profile.
“We can only imagine what his life was like before us,” the animal organization wrote. “He was then adopted by a family that unfortunately could not fit Buxton’s need for a quiet, peaceful home. Due to this, if adopted by another family, we are now saying that Buxton would do better with older kids who can give him the patience and respect he needs to truly thrive.”
Buxton, who arrived at the shelter roughly 100 days ago, was still listed as available for adoption on June 24. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at hsecarolina.org.
“Buxton is such a good boy and relies so much on the trust he builds with people and other dogs,” the humane society wrote. “But, this handsome guy has made strides when it comes to confidence!”
The shelter in Greenville, a roughly 85-mile drive east from Raleigh, didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on June 24.
