One of the largest convenience store operators in the United States is launching a new program to help North Carolina drivers save money on gas.

Members of Fas Rewards, the free loyalty program of Arko Corp., can earn discounts by making purchases at convenience stores, saving up to $40 each time they fill up their vehicle, or up to $2 off per gallon up to 40 gallons subject to state restrictions, according to a press release.

Fas Rewards members already get discounts on fuel, but this program increases the savings to $1 more off per gallon with qualifying purchases.

Arko Corp. owns more than 1,350 Fas Mart, E-Z Mart, Scotchman, Roadrunner Markets, Fastmarket, Village Pantry, Handy Mart, Pride and Rose Mart retail stores.

“Gas prices are high, and our customers feel it every time they fill up. It’s putting a strain on families, small businesses and household budgets,” Arie Kotler, the president and CEO of Arko, said in a news release.

As of Monday, Feb. 10, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in North Carolina was $2.89, according to AAA. The cost is cheaper than the national average, $3.13.

Gas prices have been on the rise for a couple of months. According to the Consumer Price Index, the gasoline index increased 4.4% in December and 0.6% in November.
