Woman bored with football plays SC lottery during Super Bowl and scores big prize

A South Carolina woman’s boredom with football ended up paying off big time.

The Charleston woman says she isn’t a big football fan, so instead of watching the Super Bowl on Sunday, she bought a Lady Jumbo Bucks Crossword scratch-off ticket from a gas station for $3, according to a release from the South Carolina Education Lottery.

She scratched the ticket “for fun” during the big game, she told lottery officials.

Her disinterest in the game and the ticket ended up winning her a $100,000 prize, according to the release.

“I was not expecting that to happen,” she told lottery officials.

She didn’t want to be identified but told lottery officials she plans to buy a new car with the money.

The gas station where she bought the ticket, Kelly’s Gas N Go in North Charleston, got a $1,000 commission for selling the winning ticket, the release says.

After the woman’s win, there is only one top $100,000 prize left in the game, lottery officials say. There is a 1 in 600,000 chance of winning the top prize.
