A 79-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run outside a South Carolina medical center, officials said.

The woman was at a doctor’s office for an appointment when a car struck her on Friday, Sept. 16, according to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.

“Staff rendered aid until emergency services arrived,” the coroner’s office told McClatchy News in an email.

Medical officials pronounced the woman dead. She was identified in a news release as Beatrice Miller, who was about a month away from her 80th birthday.

Miller lived in Taylors, just outside of Greenville. Her “cause of death was ruled as multiple blunt force injuries and manner of death was ruled as accident,” the coroner’s office wrote in its release.

Police continue to investigate the hit-and-run, which was reported at about 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Millennium medical campus. The facilities are on Innovation Drive in Greenville.

In response to McClatchy News’ request for comment, Bon Secours medical group said there was an incident at its St. Francis Millennium campus.

“The safety, security, and well-being of our patients, their families, and our associates are at the core of our values as a health care ministry,” the group wrote in an emailed statement.

After the incident, the Greenville Police Department said it identified and found a suspect vehicle based on witness descriptions. Officers also tracked down the driver, who hadn’t been charged as of Sept. 19, officials told McClatchy News in an email.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the individual involved,” Bon Secours wrote.
