Onslow County man charged with murder in fatal 2018 five-vehicle wreck in Raleigh
An Onslow County man’s charges were upgraded to second-degree murder Thursday after a 2018 crash that killed one person and injured several others.
Jasmin Noel, 50, of Jacksonville was previously charged with felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired and a seat-belt violation in the crash that caused the death of Thomas Thacker III, 58, of Selma in Johnston County.
The crash occurred on N.C. 50 north of Raleigh on Sept. 18, 2018.
Thacker’s Nissan truck was traveling at a high speed when it sideswiped a car coming from the opposite direction. It then hit Thacker’s car head-on, a Highway Patrol spokesman told The News & Observer in 2018.
The truck rolled over and continued going south, according to the Highway Patrol. It sideswiped another northbound car, and a tire flew off the pickup and hit a fifth car, The N&O reported.
Noel is being held without bail in Wake County Detention Center.
