Bundle up Halloween night, and see when it might freeze in latest forecast

The weather will be bone-chilling Halloween night, with trick-or-treaters braving possible rain after weekend and Monday highs in the 80s.

The temperature in the Raleigh-Durham area could reach 84 degrees Monday afternoon before a cold front moving into North Carolina from the west drops the overnight low to 49 degrees, the National Weather Service forecasts.

There will be a 50% chance of rain Tuesday when it will be cloudy with a high around 52 degrees, a 30-degree drop from recent days.

The sky will clear overnight Tuesday with a predicted low of 37 degrees before the sunshine returns Wednesday.

Temperatures will climb into the low and upper 50s Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, with overnight lows around a freezing 32 degrees Wednesday night and 35 degrees Thursday night.

Daytime highs Friday and Saturday should be in the 60s.

Chapel Hill prepares for Halloween

Last year’s Halloween festivities also were interrupted briefly by rain, although the temperatures were in the 60- to 70-degree range.

The weather limited activity on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill — a traditional destination for older spooks and goblins — after a two-year hiatus because of the COVID pandemic. This year, the town will close streets around downtown from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

In Durham, check out the BooFest at the Museum of Life and Science through Oct. 31, with a pumpkin party station, mad lab activities, and spooky fun. The Hallow-Eno celebration also returns for its 35th year from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at West Point on the Eno, 5101 N. Roxboro St. in Durham.
