Marcus Henry: Fund UNC system properly
Regarding the April 7 Point of View “What UNC professors do”: North Carolina Senate Bill 593 is the wrong solution to a real problem.
That the majority of UNC system undergraduate courses are taught by graduate students and adjunct professors (temps) is a real problem. Neither has the interest or the facilities for long-term student interaction so needed for the students’ academic success. No UNC school has sufficient full-time professors to teach all the classes.
The real solution is for the legislature to fully fund the UNC system so it can hire enough full-time professors needed to teach all the classes and to supply the needed classrooms, offices and labs.
