Homer C. Phifer Jr.: Giving N.C. a bad brand

As a 1954 graduate of Davidson College, it saddened me to read in the April 3 letter “Avoiding North Carolina” that the writer’s grandson had removed Davidson as his top choice of colleges he was interested in attending.

The writer said that “he said he could not consider attending a school in North Carolina because of the recent passage of House Bill 2 by the state legislature and the signing of it into law by Gov. Pat McCrory.”

I implore her grandson to reconsider Davidson College because he would find there a welcoming, diverse community of “smart people with immense integrity,” as the writer described her grandson. He would find an atmosphere in which every person is valued and respected.

It is the kind of atmosphere which could be reflected throughout our wonderful state of North Carolina if House Bill 2 is repealed.
