And it turns out, there’s a sweet twist. The players will serve doughnuts and other treats when they “take over” a Dunkin’ coffee shop in Chapel Hill, the company wrote in a Monday, April 6 news release.
Here’s what we know about the meet-and-greet and the Savannah Bananas games that are scheduled for the same weekend.
How can I meet players?
The meet-and-greet is planned for 9-11 a.m. Saturday, April 11. It’s set to take place at the Dunkin’ at 1509 E. Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.
“Players will step behind the counter to serve guests, take photos and sign autographs, while fans enjoy Dunkin’ merchandise and promotional gift card giveaways,” Darci Hamer, a spokesperson for the coffee chain, told The News & Observer in an email.
In addition to the Savannah Bananas, the event will feature the Texas Tailgaters. The team — another member of the high-energy Banana Ball league — is set to face off against the Savannah Bananas the same weekend as the Chapel Hill meet-and-greet.
The Dunkin’ event is free, and attendees aren’t required to register in advance or have tickets to a Savannah Bananas game, according to Hamer.
The N&O has asked the Savannah Bananas whether there will be other public meet-and-greet events in the Triangle and is awaiting a response.
Where and when are the games?
The Dunkin’ event is set to usher in a weekend of baseball antics in Chapel Hill. The Savannah Bananas are playing the Texas Tailgaters Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12, The N&O previously reported.
Both games will be at Kenan Stadium, the home turf for UNC-Chapel Hill’s football team. If you have ticket to the baseball games, here’s the schedule for the weekend’s activities:
- Saturday: Festivities kick off at 2 p.m. and show starts 6:30 p.m.
- Sunday: Festivities kick off at 10 a.m. and show starts 2:30 p.m.
As of Monday, April 6, the Savannah Bananas website listed both of the games as “sold out.” In March, a spokesperson told The N&O fans could try their luck on the team’s ticket resale website.
