There was no red carpet. Not even a warm welcome.
As Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski walked out onto the court at the Dean Dome for the last time, he was greeted by a chant that inserted a four-letter word in front of his name.
Before they announced the starting lineup, a photo of Krzyzewski, former UNC coach Roy Williams, current Tar Heels coach Hubert Davis and future Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer was shown on the video board. That was as close to a going-away gift that Krzyzewski got in Chapel Hill.
During Krzyzewski’s farewell tour, the Hall of Fame coach has been showered with gifts at various stops.
Here are some of the gifts Krzyzewski has received this season:
Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton made a donation to the Emily Krzyzewski Center.
Louisville presented Coach K with a customized Louisville Slugger baseball bat and blue-waxed bottle of Maker’s Mark bourbon with engraved photo of Coach K, presented by Denny Crum.
Notre Dame played a video tribute message from head coach Mike Brey at halftime.
At Madison Square Garden, ESPN president of programming Burke Magnus joined Krzyzewski at midcourt to award him a framed plaque of Duke’s accomplishments in the Champions Classic over the last 10 years.
Krzyzewski has an overall record of 49-46 against UNC with a 16-19 mark in the Dean Dome. North Carolina hosted Duke when the Dean Dome opened on Jan. 18, 1986. The Tar Heels won that game 95-92.
