No Football Bowl Subdivision team in the nation has more touchdown passes than Wake Forest’s 37.

The Demon Deacons are also No. 11 nationally in passing yards (311 per game).

So, it behooves Duke to get its usually potent rushing offense going again to control the ball and keep it away from Wake Forest when the teams meet in their regular-season finale on Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium.

For most of the season, the Blue Devils were second only to Florida State in rushing offense among ACC teams. The Seminoles (217 yards per game) still lead the way, but two subpar games in a row have dropped Duke to No. 3 in the league at 191 yards per game.

That’s because Duke produced 165 yards while beating Virginia Tech, 24-7, on Nov. 12 and a season-low 65 yards while losing 28-26 at Pittsburgh last Saturday.

Injuries to starting offensive lineman Jacob Monk, starting tight end Nicky Dalmolin and reserve running backs Terry and Jaquez Moore (no relation) played a role in two-game slump. Dalmolin won’t play again until Duke’s bowl game next month, but Blue Devils coach Mike Elko said Monk and the Terry and Jaquez Moore are day-to-day to return and he’s hopeful they’ll play against Wake Forest.

Monk has played right guard and center at different times this season. Terry and Jaquez Moore provided depth behind running backs Jaylen Coleman and Jordan Waters helping keep players fresh late into games.

So their return would be important to Duke’s chances to end is three-game losing streak to Wake Forest.
