Four-star basketball recruit Saddiq Bey has committed to N.C. State, he announced Thursday night.

Bey, a 6-7, 195-pound small forward, is ranked No. 83 in the country, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He’s the top-ranked recruit N.C. State coach Kevin Keatts and his staff have landed from the 2018 class.

Bey plays for Sidwell Friends School, a private school in Washington D.C. He made his announcement at a local Boys and Girls Club.

As a junior, Bey averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals per game. He also helped lead his school to a state championship after the team’s best player suffered an injury, his high school basketball coach Eric Singletary said. Bey averaged 20 points per game after that, Singletary said.

“I think he can be an all-conference player, a special player that is only going to get better,” Singletary said on Tuesday.

He also said Bey, whose mother is an educator, is a great student.

N.C. State started recruiting Bey in the spring, Singletary said. Bey is expected to be the focal point of the recruiting class.

Keatts now has four four-star recruits, including power forwards Immanuel Bates (No. 94) and Ian Steere (No. 103), and small forwards Jericole Hellems (No. 115) and Bey (No. 83). Before Bey’s commitment, 247Sports ranked N.C. State as having the 17th best recruiting class.

The early signing period for high school recruits starts on Nov. 8 and ends on Nov. 15.

In 2018, N.C. State will also have three transfers including Braxton Beverly, a 6-foot guard and former three-star recruit, who recently lost an appeal to be eligible to play for the 2017-18 season.

The other transfers are guards C.J. Bryce, a former UNC-Wilmington star, and Devon Daniels, who played for Utah last season.
