Friendship Christian basketball player Teja Harrison is News & Observer high school athlete of the week.

The 5-foot-6 senior had 24 points, 16 rebounds and seven steals to help Friendship Christian girls’ basketball team to a 54-24 win over Victory Christian (Elizabeth City) Nov. 13.

Harrison, a four-year starter, played out of position to help her team rebound, as the team was without their top post player, according to Friendship Christian girls’ basketball coach Ric Nelson.

A new set of nominees will be released Sunday for next week’s award.

The goal is to recognize all athletes in all sports, both the most accomplished and the underrated or underappreciated players.
