Clint Eastwood and John Wayne headline a mini-marathon of Western films
On March 30, the Cary Theater is hosting a mini-marathon of classic westerns, kicking off with George Stevens’ “Shane” (1953), starring Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur, and Van Heflin, at 9 p.m. On March 31, it’s two John Ford favorites starring John Wayne: “The Searchers” (1956) at 7 p.m., followed by “Stagecoach” (1939) at 9:30 p.m.
On April 1, Clint Eastwood’s “The Outlaw Josey Wales” (1976), starring Eastwood and Sondra Locke, concludes the short series at 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, Brett Morgen’s 2017 documentary “Jane” screens at 7 p.m. March 30.
On April 4, the Triangle Filmmaking Community joins with The Cary to present the Motion for Pictures Screening Series, which will showcase short films made by local filmmakers at 7 p.m. On April 5, Stephen Chbosky’s “Wonder” (2017) screens at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m, followed by Ziad Doueiri’s “The Insult” (2017) at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $3-$5 for each film. ▪ On March 30, at Duke University in Durham, the Screen/Society’s Material Desire and Experimental Film series is presenting Program 3: “Color and Chemistry,” an evening of experimental short films, at the Rubenstein Arts Center’s Film Theater. On April 2, at the same venue, the AMI (Art of the Moving Image) Showcase is screening Josh Gibson and Amadou Fofana’s 2018 documentary “SenCinema,” followed by Ousmane Sembene’s 1966 drama “Black Girl.” A Q & A with the filmmakers of “SenCinema” will follow. ▪ On April 1 and 4, Silverspot Cinema in Chapel Hill will screen Charles Walters’ 1948 musical “Easter Parade,” which is showing at various Triangle locations as part of the Flashback Cinema series. It shows at Wakefield 10 in Raleigh at 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Silverspot Cinema in Chapel Hill at 1:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.; and Park West 14 Cinemas in Morrisville (call for times).
