Be nice to your friends in Cary. They have a lot to spend on holiday shopping, study says
Apparently, nothing could be finer than to be in Cary, North Carolina, on Christmas morning.
Residents of the western Wake County town will have deeper pockets than all but 10 cities nationwide for the 2017 holiday shopping season, according to a study released Tuesday by WalletHub.
The biggest holiday budgets belong to Naperville, Ill., $2,381; Sugar Land, Texas, $2,368; and Bellevue, Wash., $2,367. Cary came in at 11th with a budget of $2,027.
WalletHub says the study is intended to give people an idea of a spending limit to help them avoid post-holiday regret. It is based on income, age and the ratios of debt, income and savings to monthly expenses.
Based on an October survey, the National Retail Federation projects consumers will spend $967 on average this holiday season – a 3.4 percent increase over the survey results at the same time in 2016.
