One person was killed after a fire destroyed the top floor of Inland Harbor condominiums in Carolina Beach on Monday morning.
The fire started in one condo and spread from there, according to Carolina Beach Fire Chief Alan Griffin. When crews arrived, fire was visible from the balcony of a fourth-floor condo.
Firefighters contained the fire to three condos, but at least eight others had smoke or water damage.
The person killed in the fire – who had not been identified as of about 4:30 p.m. Monday – was trapped and couldn’t get out of the condo, Griffin said. Foul play is not suspected in the fire, but the Carolina Beach police, fire marshal and the State Bureau of Investigation will investigate.
The Red Cross is assisting those affected by the fire.
