Accidental shooting reported at State Crime Lab in Raleigh

A woman working in the firearms forensic unit at the North Carolina State Crime Lab in Raleigh was wounded late Thursday morning by an accidental gunshot, the state Department of Justice said.

A gun was being tested as evidence when the shooting happened shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the lab at 121 E. Tryon Road, DOJ spokeswoman Laura Brewer said.

"That employee was injured and is being taken to the hospital. Her injuries do not appear to be critical," Brewer said. Other details were not immediately available.

Police confirmed they had been dispatched to investigate a shooting report, but gave no details.

Dispatchers told Wake County EMS personnel that someone had been wounded in the hand.
