“I need an ambulance,” a woman told a 911 dispatcher at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. “Two people are shooting. Please hurry up. There are people getting shot out here.”
When police and paramedics arrived they found Taheem Ivory Lassiter wounded in the 4900 block of Peeble Beach Drive. Emergency workers rushed Lassiter to WakeMed hospital, where he later died, said Laura Hourigan, a police spokeswoman.
The 911 caller, whose name was not made public, told the dispatcher that she heard at least two shots. She said she did not see the shooting, but heard a car speed away before it returned to the apartment complex and more gunshots rang out.
“Somebody is screaming, ‘Oh my God,’” the 911 caller said.
Lassiter lived in the same block where he was wounded, according to police records.
Reports of gunfire are not uncommon at the apartment complex.
