Henderson police fatally shoot man after search team meets gunfire from house
A man whom police said they shot after they met gunfire when trying to search a house died early Friday, they said.
The man was not immediately identified, and a statement posted on the department’s Facebook page did not say why they had a warrant to search the house at 538 Skenes Ave.
The incident happened about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, police said.
A police officer who was hit by one of the shots fired from inside the house was treated at Maria Parham Medical Center and released, according to a statement signed by Chief M.W. Barrow.
Police called in the State Bureau of Investigation because the incident was an officer-involved shooting. The SBI handles all such cases in the state.
“Upon approaching and announcing themselves, officers encountered gunfire from in the residence,” the statement said.
