Hurricane Jose: Tropical storm strengthens, upgraded to Category 1 on heels of Irma

Tropical Storm Jose quickly strengthened to become a Category 1 hurricane on Wednesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Jose is still far from land and well east of Hurricane Irma. The Hurricane Center said Wednesday that Jose posed no immediate threat to land, but meteorologists warned that it’s too early to accurately predict the storm’s path.

Jose had winds of about 75 mph and was strengthening quickly, the hurricane center reported.

Jose joins powerful Category 5 Hurricane Irma already pushing into the Caribbean and approaching Florida, and Hurricane Katia, newly formed in the gulf off the coast of Mexico.
