Marist replaces Albany on Duke schedule

Duke now will open the 2016-17 basketball season with home games against Marist and Grand Canyon in the campus rounds of the 2016 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off, it was announced Tuesday.

Marist replaced Albany on the Duke men’s schedule. The game against Albany was cancelled because of New York governor Andrew Cuomo’s directive preventing publicly funded, non-essential travel to North Carolina, an executive order that was a response to North Carolina House Bill 2.

Duke was to have faced Grand Canyon on Nov. 11, but that game was moved back a night as the Hall of Fame Tip-Off organizers changed the schedule.

After the two games at Cameron Indoor Stadium, the Blue Devils take on Penn State at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Nov. 19 as the championship portion of the tournament begins. The winner will face either Cincinnati or Rhode Island on Nov. 20 in Uncasville.
