Duke and North Carolina already have top 10 recruiting classes for next season, but both could add to their stock before it’s all said and done.

E.J. Montgomery, a 6-10, 200-pound five-star power forward from Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga., narrowed his list of final schools down to 11: and Duke, North Carolina and Wake Forest made the cut.

The other schools include Kentucky, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, USC, Clemson, Georgia and UCLA.

That list expects to be chopped down to five in the next few weeks. Montgomery has set up official visits before narrowing the list.

He’s expected to visit Duke next month. If the Blue Devils land Montgomery, that would give Duke five of the top 12 Class of 2018 players in the country, all five-star players. Montgomery would join R.J. Barrett (No. 1), Cam Reddish (No. 2), Zion Williamson (No. 3) and Tre Jones (No. 8), improving the Blue Devils’ already stacked class.

If Montgomery ends up at UNC, he’d join Nassir Little (No. 6), Coby White (No. 23) and Rechon Black (No. 62).

Montgomery is currently ranked No. 12 in the nation in 247Sports composite rankings. Montgomery, along with all of those incoming Duke players, were selected to play in the 2018 McDonald’s All-American game March 28 in Atlanta, Ga.

Montgomery is on the East roster along with Barrett, Williamson and White. Little, Reddish and Jones are on the West roster.

Tar Heels’ assistant coach Hubert Davis was in attendance Thursday night when Montgomery scored 39 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in a 68-39 win over Newnan (Ga.) High.

Montogmery originally committed to Auburn in 2016, but when it was announced that assistant coach Chuck Person was part of the FBI’s investigation into college basketball, Montgomery backed off the commitment.

Montgomery is averaging 26 points and 14 rebounds a game this season.
