Cross country (58)

In the Cap-7 4A Conference championships, the Broughton boys and Cardinal Gibbons girls took home titles.

Sanderson’s Lila Peters (18 minutes, 22 seconds) won the girls’ title by 21 seconds. Following her, in order, were Cardinal Gibbons’ Marissa Bishop, Leesville Road’s Audrey Hemming, Sanderson teammate Lauren Ammons and Gibbons’ Katharine Priu.

Gibbons’ Sam Thornton (15:37) won the boys’ title by a second over Broughton’s Ryan Brown. Millbrook’s Nickolas Scudder, Broughton’s Jacob Wells and Leesville Road’s Preston Jones rounded out the top five.

The South Wake 4A Athletic Conference championships were won by the Apex Friendship boys – led by conference champ Wesley Provost (15:52.44) and the Apex girls – led by conference champ Calli Parlier (18:35.21), who won by 51 seconds.

Middle Creek’s Lauren Copperthwaite, Apex Friendship’s Jade Martin and Holly Springs’ Caitlyn Morton and Cayleigh Nelson rounded out the girls’ top five, while the boys’ top five included runner-up Apex’s David Cart, Friendship’s Alec Atteberry and Tim Haughton and Middle Creek’s Jackson Lawrence.

Green Hope swept the Triangle 6 4A Conference championships, topping the Panther Creek girls and Cary boys. Green Hope’s Peyton Barish (15:37.71) won the boys’ title by two seconds over teammate Finn McBride and three seconds ahead of Panther Creek’s Joey Bream, who was followed by Green Hope’s Ryan Kemper and Daniel Vo.

Panther Creek’s Shannon Sefton won the girls’ race by 27 seconds, followed in order by Green Hope’s Kelsey Vogel, Tess Davila, Zoey Davila and Panther Creek’s Julia Patterson.

Wake Forest swept the first Northern Athletic 4A Conference titles, led by boys’ individual champ John Autry (17:18.16) who was followed by Rolesville’s Ethan Boyd, Heritage’s Grant White, Rolesville’s Mamoon Hassan and Wakefield’s Reid Calhoun. On the girls’ side, Rolesville’s Diana Sanchez-Lopez (19:10.4) won the title by 30 seconds over Wake Forest’s Erin Spreen, with Heritage’s Christina and Melissa Bourne and Wake Forest’s Natalie Mitchell rounding out the top five.

In the Eastern Carolina 2A, Ayden-Grifton’s Halei Ward (21:07) won the girls’ individual title but South Lenoir swept both titles.

D.H. Conley swept the Eastern Carolina 3A/4A.

Jordan-Matthews’ Christian Esquivel claimed the PAC-7 2A Conference boys’ title (19:22).

Farmville Central’s boys edged Beddingfield by one point to win the Eastern Plains 2A title, but Beddingfield freshman Kamare Watson (16:39) won the individual title by 42 seconds. The reverse happened in the girls’ race, with Beddingfield topping Farmville Central and Farmville’s Brooke Schwieterman (21:55) winning the conference title.

Tarboro freshman Taniya Everette (22 minutes, 20 seconds) won the Coastal Plains 1A Conference girls cross country title.
