A TV series put the spotlight on North Carolina, but it won’t be returning to Prime Video.

“The Runarounds,” a fictional show that features a real-life band, has been canceled after one season.

“We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who helped in creating the first season of the show, from our cast and crew to everyone behind the scenes who believed in this and brought it to life,” the band wrote Friday, April 3 on Instagram.

“And most of all, to the incredible supporters that have found their way to our music through this show and turned this into something even bigger than we could have imagined.”

Here’s what we know about the show’s cancellation and what’s next for the band.

Show ending after one season

Season one of “The Runarounds” premiered in September on the streaming platform Prime Video. The eight-episode series was filmed and set along the North Carolina Coast, following recent high school graduates from Wilmington as they started a rock band, The News & Observer previously reported.

The plot of the coming-of-age drama was made up, but the cast featured real musicians from the band The Runarounds. It was one of the young adult series that Prime Video pushed out after the show “The Summer I Turned Pretty” gained popularity.

The Runarounds was not able to break through,” entertainment website Deadline reported. “It didn’t make it into Nielsen’s Top 10 though it charted on Luminate’s Top 50 in its first three weeks.”

Then on Friday, April 3, Deadline was the first news outlet to report that “The Runarounds” wasn’t being renewed for a second season. Some fans took to social media to say the end of the series left them heartbroken.

What happens to the band?

So, how could the show’s cancellation impact the real-life band? As The Runarounds shared that the show was done, they also teased the release of new music.

“While the TV series may have come to a close, as a band we’re here to stay,” the music group wrote on social media. “This is merely the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one.”

The Runarounds also have performances planned for several states, including a sold-out show in North Carolina. That concert is scheduled for Sunday, June 21 at The Pyrle in Greensboro.

“If the show inspired anyone, at any age, to try and start a garage band with their friends, then the mission was successful,” the band wrote. “Hearing your stories and connections with the show has been such a privilege.”

Representatives for the band and Prime Video didn’t immediately share additional information with The N&O.
