A popular frozen custard chain appears to be opening its newest Triangle location soon.
After months of construction, Andy’s Frozen Custard’s second Raleigh shop will be dishing out concretes, sundaes and shakes.
There is no indoor seating, but those who want to stay in a temperature-controlled environment can take advantage of the drive-thru. Otherwise, customers can order at the walk-up counter.
A tentative opening for Andy’s Frozen Custard is Wednesday, Nov. 5, franchise owner Daniel Schick told The News & Observer in a phone call. That date may change, but customers can check the shop’s social media accounts or website for the latest opening information.
The dessert shop is located at 340 E. Six Forks Road, near Wake Forest Road, and will employ between 25 and 30 people, Schick said. This is the third Andy’s location in the Triangle, joining a shop at 3001 Leland Drive in Raleigh and at 1115 Hatches Pond Lane in Morrisville.
There are a few businesses nearby serving sweet treats, including the over-the-top cookie retailer Crumbl and local bakery La Farm, but Andy’s is the first in the area focusing on frozen desserts.
About Andy’s Frozen Custard
Andy’s Frozen Custard first opened in Osage Beach, Missouri, in 1986 and has since expanded to more than a dozen states, according to the chain’s website.
It specializes in frozen custard-based desserts. Customers can order from a menu of concretes, made with frozen custard blended with add-ins such as nuts, cookie dough, fruits, candy and sauces, or create their own treat, choosing which ingredients to mix into vanilla or chocolate custard.
The chain also makes Jackhammers, frozen custard treats filled with a topping such as hot fudge, along with sundaes, shakes, malts, floats and just plain frozen custard in a cup or cone.
Schick said popular items include the BootDaddy concrete, made with vanilla or chocolate frozen custard blended with Oreo, caramel and hot fudge, and the James Brownie Funky Jackhammer, which is frozen custard blended with peanut butter and brownies, with hot fudge in the center.
New businesses in Raleigh
Andy’s Frozen Custard isn’t the only new business coming to the busy Wake Forest-Six Forks intersection.
- Whataburger, the Texas-based hamburger chain, is under construction at the corner closest to Wegmans, but by the looks of things, it’s still a ways from opening.
- Guthrie’s, though, is almost ready to welcome customers. The fast food chain established in Alabama claims to be the first chicken finger restaurant, selling only chicken fingers, or sandwiches made with chicken fingers, with fries and sides such as toast or slaw, and a signature sauce. We previously spoke with the company CEO about what sets Guthrie’s apart.
- TD Bank, headquartered in New Jersey, was built on the old Courtney’s Restaurant site on Six Forks Road. There is one other TD Bank location in the Triangle, off Creedmoor Road in Raleigh.
