  • Jubala is known for house‑roasted coffee, Boulted Bread sandwiches and baked goods.
  • Main District is now fully leased; more restaurants are coming elsewhere at North Hills.

One of Raleigh’s most popular local coffee shops is expanding its reach — in a hyperlocal way.

Jubala Coffee, which has four existing locations in the city, is expanding at North Hills.

The chain already slings lattes and biscuits from a location at the shopping center’s Park District.

Now it plans to serve house-roasted coffee, fresh baked goods and sandwiches made with slices from Boulted Bread from a storefront in the Main District, between Alo Yoga and Gorjana, the jewelry store. That’s just across Six Forks from its Park District location.

There are no brick-and-mortar coffee shops in the Main District. However, there is a Starbucks inside Target, and Dinoska Café operates a coffee trailer steps from where Jubala will be. Across Lassiter Mill Road from the Main District, there’s a standalone Starbucks in the Lassiter District.

“We have been very strategic about the coffee offerings in the Main District, and Jubala is an incredible partner with an exceptional product,” Stacey Buescher, EVP of Commercial Operations at Kane Realty Corporation, said in a news release. “They have built such a strong and meaningful following at their existing North Hills café that we are confident they can support the demand for two locations here.”

The Main District is now fully leased with Jubala. Andrew Cash, who owns the coffee shop, said in the news release that the company is looking forward to being “right in the middle of so much energy.”

“The support we’ve received has been amazing, and we’re excited to create another space where people can gather over great coffee,” Cash said.

No opening date for the new Jubala was provided in the news release, but it will be at 4114 Center at North Hills St.

Jubala expanding in Raleigh

Jubala first opened at Lafayette Village in 2011.

It has since expanded to Hillsborough Street near N.C. State, the Park District at North Hills and its newest location, the ground floor of the Pendo building on Hillsborough Street in downtown Raleigh. At that downtown shop, its largest by square footage, Jubala also added Bar Marigold, a craft cocktail bar that serves food, too.

Benchwarmers Bagels, the brainchild of the teams behind Jubala Coffee and Boulted Bread, is also looking to North Hills for its newest location. The standalone, 2,800-square-foot bagel shop is expected to open in May in the Innovation District.

Standard and flavored lattes at Jubala range in price, $5-$6, and a 16-ounce iced coffee is $4. Drip coffee starts at $3.25 for a 12-ounce serving.

Sandwiches are $12-$14. Biscuits start at $4, with more substantial choices — the ones that come with a fried egg, cheese and meat — closer to $9.
